Shirt
A huipil made from a single piece of white cotton cloth woven on a backstrap loom. The sides of the huipil are sewn together ¾ of the way up on the inside of the garment with black thread, leaving room for armholes. The bottom edges of the huipil are selvages. The upper half of the huipil is decorated with brocade in a wide T-shape (as viewed from the front or back). A square neck hole is cut in the center and bound with yarn. The brocade is done with brightly colored acrylic yarns, particularly bright red. Most of the design is made of small diamonds, but the arrangement of the colors gives an impression of larger diamonds and/or “X” shapes. There is a narrow brocade design across the bottom.
